Dairy Presentation

Today we had a representative from the Dairy Farmers of Ontario come to our classroom. The students learned a little bit about how a dairy farm works, they saw a quick video of how machines milk cows. The children used interactive pages on the SMARTboard and performed some of the jobs on the dairy farm.

Coding

This week our class began investigating coding. Sara brought in a Code-a-pillar. The children are learning the beginning skills of programming. The Code-a-pillar requires students to select positions to move. For example, in order to meet the white star the Code-a-pillar needs to go straight, turn, straight and turn. The children had to pick directions and then program the Code-a-pillar to move in the correct direction.

This activity helps build understanding of location of objects, use of instructions, understanding of movement vocabulary, right and left, turn and straight. The cheers were very loud when their directions met the white star. We will continue our coding learning  through the use of grids, shapes, barrier games and other coding games.

On the iPad our students use the app called Kodable. You might wish to look into this app or site for home use. https://www.kodable.com/hour-of-code

2 D and 3 D Rabbits

The artists in our room have continued their investigation into two dimensional and three dimensional artwork. Today we revisited the sewing inquiry from the beginning of the year. Students worked intently on sewing together two pieces and stuffing their bunny. They were very proud of the final results. All of the 3 D bunnies were sent home today, check your child’s backpack for their bunny.
